Karata

Karata is a Nakh-Daghestanian language spoken by between 7,000 and 20,000 people (we lack a more precise estimate). It is traditionally spoken in 10 mountain villages, each with its own variety of the language (all are mutually intelligible). I worked in the eponymous village "Karata", as well as in Makhachkala with speakers of that variety.
